When James Cameron, a grey-haired American film director set foot on the red carpet at the Second Beijing International Film Festival (BIFF) at 19: 30 on April 23, 2012, the thunderous applause and cheers this elderly won outshone Andy Lau, superstar from Hong Kong, who had just passed by. This amazing tall American is known to everybody, as he is the creator of the films Terminator, Titanic and Avatar, the most imaginative and creative magician of light and shadow in the world. Certainly, he now becomes the focus with most international influence at this session.

In Cameron’s view, China has become one of the fast developing countries on the world film market. The exchange and cooperation between Chinese cinema and world counterpart will be much broader and deeper. He says, “Chinese films are now realizing their ideal of fast development, and therefore it is necessary to establish an international platform in such a time-honored cultural capital as Beijing to strengthen film exchange and cooperation between China and abroad. It is not only Chinese peers’ dream to present Chinese film to the outside world, but also a great event in world cinema that we are all delighted to see.”

Beijing and BIFF, with broad mind and inclusive attitude, sincerely welcome all good films of different concepts, forms and contents all over the world. In this way, Chinese audience will be enabled to enjoy excellent movies of different countries and to appreciate beautiful landscape, folk custom, history and treasure of civilizations.
