Hit Chinese game "Black Myth: Wukong" has made a remarkable splash in the gaming world: on Friday it clinched Best Action Game at The Game Awards (TGA) 2024 in Los Angeles. The game also claimed the Players' Voice, an award voted for by fans.

"Black Myth: Wukong" draws inspiration from the classic Chinese novel "Journey to the West," and its stunning portrayal of China's ancient architectural sites has attracted widespread attention since its debut.

Considered the first Chinese-developed Triple-A title – which are usually big budget, high quality games – it was released on August 20 to remarkable commercial success, generating $53 million in pre-sales and selling 4.5 million copies within 24 hours worldwide.

Developed over six years by Game Science, the game represents a significant milestone for the Chinese gaming industry. Its stunning visuals and immersive combat mechanics inspired by the legendary Monkey King offers players an epic adventure.

The game's success not only showcases its outstanding gameplay but also sparked worldwide interest in traditional Chinese culture.

The art design team of the game drew inspiration from 36 landmarks across China, including the Jade Emperor Temple in Jincheng, Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou and the Ten Thousand Buddhas Temple in Shanxi Province.

They established a virtual library of ancient Chinese architectural heritage, allowing the game to present China's stunning landscapes and historic sites in a seamless virtual experience.

The game also features authentic traditional Chinese music, including Shanbei storytelling, a national level intangible cultural heritage item in China that features three strings and a distinctive vocal style.

The game's makers aimed to tell a Chinese story with world-class quality, technology and visual standards. Feng Ji, the game's producer, said "Games are a product that allows players from all around the world to communicate, experience, and share joy."

The Game Awards 2024 is streamed live to over 100 million people and is called "the biggest night in gaming." "Black Myth: Wukong" was among the six nominees of the awards' top prize, Game of the Year, but lost to "Astro Bot."
