Street dance is a dance style that has evolved outside dance studios in everyday spaces such as streets, parks and school yards. It is often improvisational and social in nature, encouraging interaction with spectators and other dancers. This dance style features free steps, passionate movements and R&B dance music.

Inertia is the elite performing ensemble of the Westside High School Fine Arts Dance Program. This unique group combines all elements of dance education. Consisting of girls trained in the traditional dance forms, ballet, modern dance and jazz techniques, with boys who specialize in street styles, break dance, house, popping and locking, Inertia displays a style and feel of all their own.

This group is nationally recognized with 25 MA National Championship titles, numerous choreography and technique awards, as well as invited presentations for the NDA National Dance Gala, National High School Dance Festival, Dance Houston, NBA San Antonio Spurs, and most recently the BCS National Title Game Halftime Show and Houston Symphony.
