  Resume of Van Keng Vai

  Born in Macao in 1942 and graduated from Accounting and Economics Major of Yunhai Univeristy and St. Joseph High School, Van Keng vai is currently an administrative business manager. Ever since childhood, he has had a special interest in fine arts, traditional Chinese painting and pottery in particular. Now he is Deputy Head of World Yin’s Calligraphy and Painting Society, Director General of Chong Fong Culture and Art Association, Deputy Head of ArtBf Amateurs Association of Macao, Deputy Head of Macao Clenzal Staff Association, member of the Macao Artist Society, director of Yu Un Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association of Macao, and a traditional Chinese painting tutor of Macao’s iCenter and Taipa Events Center of Macao Federation of Trade Unions. Thanks to the enlightenment from Teacher Zhao Mingshan, he took up traditional Chinese painting in the 1950s. In 1993, he won the 3rd Prize of in the Banner and Emblem Design for the Special Administrative Region of Macao. In 2005 he held his personal exhibition at Millennium Gallery of Macao. For years his traditional Chinese paintings have been selected into the Visual Arts Annual Exhibition of The Cultural Affars Bureau and the All-Macao Calligraphy and Painting Joint Exhibition of Civil Administration of Macao.

  In recent years, he has been invited to many important calligraphy and painting exhibitions both at home and abroad, including those in Beijing, Shanghai, Inner Mongolia, Xi’an, Hangzhou, Laizhou of Shandong Province, Quanzhou of Fujian Province, Nanning of Guangxi Zhuang Nationality Autonomous Region, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Zhuhai as well as Five-Celebrity Exhibition at Changsha of Hunan Province, Six-Celebrity Exhibition at Nanchang of Jiangxi Province and Three-Celebrity Exhibition at Jakarta in Indonesia. He even has had exchange and exhibition in Korea and Canada.

  ‘Old Tippler’s Indication—Van Keng vai’s Traditional Chinese Painting Exhibition’, part of ‘Macao Artists Promotion Plan’ sponsored by the Macao Foundation, was launched at Exhibition Hall of The UNESCO Centre of Macau on May 18. This exhibition of Van Keng vai’s 60 selected paintings lasted till May 26. Along with the exhibition the album “Old Tippler’s Indication” Van Keng vai’s Traditional Chinese Painting Collection was issued simultaneously. Distinguished guests at the opening ceremony included Ms. Xu Ting, Director General of Department of Culture and Education of Central Liaison Office in Macao, Mr. Li Xiaoquan, Deputy Director General of Department of Public Diplomacy and Information of the Commissioner’s Office of Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Macao, Mr. Lei Pui Lam, member of the Board of Trustees of Macao Foundation, Mr. Au Weng Chi, member of the Board of Directors of Macao Foundation, Mr. Ho Sut Heng, President of Macao Federation of Trade Unions, Mr. Lau Ngai Leong, President of Association of Returned Overseas Chinese Macau, Ms. Liu Chi Heng, Deputy Editor of Macao Daily News, Mr. Che Si Fan, Director of Macao Association of Building Contractors and Developers, Mr. Lai Ieng, President of Macao Artist Society, Mr. Siu Chun iun, Vice President of Yu Un Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association of Macao and Ms. Yin Zijing, Vice President of China Calligraphic Art Research Society.
