From December 9 till 11, the 2nd Asian Animation Summit was held at Phuket, a tourist resort in Thailand. Jointly sponsored by American Children Screen Magazine, Multimedia Development Agency of Malaysia, Korean Cultural Association, Australian Screen and Australia Radion Company, this summit aimed to promote the exchange and cooperation of Asian animation.
It is learned that more than 200 professionals were attracted into this summit including animation enterprises from non-Asia-Pacific region such as USA, Canada, Spain and Finland. In the duration of three days, 24 excellent animation productions from Thailand, Malaysia, Korea and Australia were shown, among which some wonderful productions such as “ChiChi”, “LuLu” and “Blue Yonder”. As Sebastian Debertinf, responsible person of International Cooperation Department of KIKI TV from Germany, supposed, the professionalism of this summit impressed him deeply in that the organizers were amazingly able to gather producers, media and investors together in such a short time. He confessed that the role design and story plot are still the main problem for animation because kids never care about technology. This year, lots of animation companies had to turn to North America or Australia to find a good screenplay, and otherwise their project will fail to start.
