From Taiwan to Southeast Asia and from Hong Kong to mainland, contemporary wash painting was gradually acknowledged and respected by fine arts circle and then fully developed. For decades, he spared no efforts to promote this approach all over the world. So far he has been invited to galleries or museums in different countries to present personal exhibition on more than 80 occasions and many of his works have been collected by over 50 globally reputable museums such as Metropolitan Museum of Art in US, British Museum in UK and the Palace Museum at Beijing. As to his knowledge of culture, Liu Kuosung has his own classic conclusion. “Human civilization history is created by two kinds of people. Scientists create material one and artists make spiritual one. What kind of people can be a scientist? He must have an idea in his mind, and must carry out experiment to prove whether it is correct. With big invention, he is called a big scientist; with small invention, he is called a small scientist. It is the same with artists. Artists must have their feeling and then reproduce this feeling by means of painting.” But what can he do if traditional technique and material failed to reproduce his own feeling? “He must carry out experiment in arts to find the proper way.” As far as Liu Kuosung is concerned, a painter’s studio is just a lab for creation. “A good painter must carry out experiment because he needs invention”.
