Concert and Olympiad: Friendship Conveyor——Tan Jing's Trip to UK
On November 28 local time, Tan Jing managed a concert titled To London with Beijing’s Blessings at London’s Royal Albert Hall, the reputable art venue advocated by Queen Victoria in 1871 and renamed after her passed-away husband Prince Albert. On the eve of London Olympic Games, this concert linked the past and future of Olympiad and conveyed the Olympic Spirit between the two Olympic host cities—Beijing and London.
“As Royal Albert Hall is the most popular art venue that many world-class masters presented their performances, it is a great honor for me to sing aloud the oriental melody on behalf of Beijing and China. As a matter of fact, it is a honor for China in the world’s eye.” Tan Jing said. She hoped to take this concert as an opportunity to introduce Chinese music to the world and expected to bring fine mood and loving care to all the British audiences. “One of my songs is called Love Brings me Here, which is just my ideal.”
In her trip to London, Tan Jing was not alone. She shared the stage with Swedish pianist Robert Intervet Wells, British tenor Wynne Evans, Glen Hughes as well as British Blakes Quartet and Swedish women’s vocal group. Tan Jing was thankful for gaining this priceless experience with these European artists, “I have desired for this concert for a long, long time, because it is a bold trial to combine musicians from various countries and with different performing styles, which is indeed a banquet of music. In this concert, more inspiration was found in the collision of arts, and the perfect integration of eastern and western music has brought singers and audiences to feel a magic touching sense. Like old friends who have long practice, we bear a tacit agreement in performance. In the meanwhile, it is also a good occasion for me to learn a lot from those excellent musicians. After cooperation with them, I find a significant progress in my music understanding.”
Besides the concert, Tan Jing visited Oxford University, the world-leading university, and held a conversation with the students there concerning Chinese music and culture as a cultural exchange. Moreover, she shot a large quantity of fashion photos in Royal Albert Hall, The Thames, Big Ben and other world-famous landscapes, in which she intended to mix the Chinese fashion with western history and civilization. Tan Jing said, “Now it is winter in London. Though it is quite freezing outside, I am in a happy mood. I like playing table tennis. My trip here coincides with the preliminary table tennis competition of London Olympiad. So I deliberately paid a visit to Chinese athletes.” Then she changed the topic. “London is a world-level city with abundant humanity resources. My concert in London is equivalent to a trip to Olympics, and brings Beijing’s blessings to the next Olympic host city—London while allowing European audience to feel the charm of Chinese culture in music. Whether in Olympic Games or concert, friendship is just what we want to say.”
